Ingredients

For the apples
  • 6 medium apples Granny Smith, Fuji, or Honeycrisp
For dipping
  • 1 1/2 cups caramel sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips melted
For the toppings (pick what you like)
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup M&Ms
  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup almond slivers chopped small
  • 1/2 cup peanuts chopped small
Also needed
  • wooden skewers
If making slices ahead (salt water soak)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups water

Method

  1. Spoon each topping into its own muffin tin cup or small bowl.
  2. Slice the apples.
  3. Making the slices ahead? Soak them in salt water for 10 minutes so they don't brown. Use about 1 teaspoon of salt per 2 cups of water. Rinse them well before serving.
  4. Push a skewer into each slice.
  5. Dip the slice in caramel or chocolate.
  6. Roll or sprinkle it with your toppings and eat.

Notes

Pat the slices dry first. Wet apples make the caramel slide right off. Warm the caramel a little so it's easy to dip, but don't let it get hot and runny. Chop the peanuts and almonds small so they stick better.
