Method
Prepare the Oven
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
Cook the Beef Filling
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the diced onion and cook for about 3 minutes, or until softened and beginning to brown.
- Add the ground beef and cook for 7-10 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and no longer pink.
- Drain the excess fat from the beef and return the meat to the skillet.
- Add the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and water.
- Stir well and continue cooking until the water has evaporated and the seasonings are evenly distributed throughout the beef.
Assemble the Sliders
- Keeping the rolls connected, slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally through the middle to create one large top half and one large bottom half.
- Place the bottom half of the rolls on the prepared baking sheet.
- Arrange the sliced cheddar or American cheese evenly over the bottom half of the rolls.
- Spread the seasoned ground beef evenly over the sliced cheese.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef.
- Place the top half of the rolls over the cheese and beef filling.
Top and Bake
- Brush the tops of the rolls evenly with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake for 15-16 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and the tops of the rolls are lightly golden brown.
Serve
- Remove from the oven, separate or slice into 12 individual sliders, and serve warm.
Notes
- Bottom cheese layer: Placing sliced cheese directly over the bottom buns creates a barrier between the bread and beef filling, helping prevent the rolls from becoming soggy.
- Cheese options: Cheddar or American cheese can be used for the sliced layer. The shredded cheddar on top adds extra cheesy flavor.
- Ground beef: Drain excess grease after browning so the sliders do not become overly oily.
- Hawaiian rolls: Keep the rolls connected while slicing and assembling for easier preparation.
- Baking: The sliders are ready when the cheese is melted throughout and the tops of the rolls are lightly browned.
- Storage: Refrigerate cooled leftover sliders in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days.
- Reheating: Reheat in a 350°F oven until warmed through for the best bun texture.
