Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray an 8x8-inch oven-safe baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- Drain the green beans thoroughly and transfer them to a large mixing bowl.
- Add 3/4 cup of the French fried onions to the green beans and gently toss to combine.
- In a small saucepan, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk. Heat over medium heat for about 2 minutes, whisking until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the warm mushroom soup mixture over the green beans and fried onions. Gently toss until everything is evenly coated.
- Transfer the green bean mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
- Bake uncovered for 20 minutes.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the remaining French fried onions evenly over the top. Use as many as desired; you may not need the entire amount.
- Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the onions are crisp and lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and serve the green bean casserole while warm.
Notes
Drain the canned green beans well to prevent the casserole from becoming watery.
Add the final layer of fried onions only during the last 5 minutes of baking so they stay crisp and golden.
You may not need the entire 6-ounce can of fried onions for the topping. Add as many as you prefer.
This recipe makes approximately 6 servings.
