  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
Pizza Topping
  • 1 can pizza sauce can size not specified in the original recipe
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • pepperoni as desired, for topping
  • Italian seasoning for sprinkling over the finished dip
For Serving
  • chips, crackers, or pita chips for dipping

Equipment

  • 9-inch pie pan
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Mixing spoon or silicone spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Prepare the Oven
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Cream Cheese Layer
  1. Add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, oregano, and garlic salt to a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Mix until smooth and evenly combined.
  3. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan.
Add the Pizza Layer
  1. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the cream cheese mixture.
  2. Arrange a few pepperoni slices over the pizza sauce.
First Bake
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
Add the Cheese
  1. Carefully remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle the shredded mozzarella evenly over the top.
  2. Add a few more pepperoni slices over the mozzarella.
Second Bake
  1. Return the dip to the oven and bake for another 7–8 minutes, or until the mozzarella is completely melted and the dip is hot and bubbly.
Broil
  1. Turn the broiler on and broil the dip for approximately 1–2 minutes, until the cheese develops lightly browned spots and the pepperoni becomes slightly crisp. Watch closely during this step to prevent burning.
Finish and Serve
  1. Remove the pizza dip from the oven and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  2. Serve warm with chips, crackers, or pita chips for dipping.

Notes

  • Pizza sauce: The original recipe specifies 1 can but does not provide the can size, so the quantity has been preserved without estimating the ounces.
  • Pepperoni: Add as much or as little pepperoni as desired. Arrange some over the sauce before the first bake and reserve additional slices for the cheese topping.
  • Cream cheese: Allow the cream cheese to soften before mixing so the base becomes smooth and easy to spread.
  • Cheese: Shredded mozzarella gives the dip its classic stretchy pizza-cheese texture.
  • Broiling: Watch the dip continuously during the final 1–2 minutes under the broiler because the cheese and pepperoni can brown quickly.
  • Serving: Serve immediately while the cheese is hot and melted. Crackers, pita chips, tortilla chips, toasted bread, or sturdy vegetables can be used for dipping.
  • Storage: Refrigerate cooled leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm the dip in the oven until heated through and the cheese is melted again.
